Missing a Day

·226 words·2 mins
All right, I don’t have a good excuse. I didn’t write yesterday. To make up for it, I’ll post twice today. Last night, I finished Call of Duty. Ok, ok, I practically played through the entire game. My summary, which has already been mirrored by others like Peter Cohen of Macworld and Maccentral fame. Excellent game, great play, good levels, but too short. I want more! Essentially all the levels were interesting and fun. I’m glad there was no sniper level, a la Medal of Honor. Was it worth the $50? Yes, I believe so. I now have a lot of replay value through playing at greater difficulties and multi-player play.

End of the Week Spectacular

·223 words·2 mins
The weekend is a few scant hours away, as is yet another Red Sox game. I must be setting some kind of record here. I’ve gone for over two decades without going to a Red Sox game while living in Massachusetts, and now I’m going to at least three this year. The season isn’t even half over yet. My Macally BTMouseJr is on its way finally. I’ve been waiting with baited breath for it, obsessively checking my order status over at Page Computers *ding*. It has since gone to backorder status there, so it appears that this mouse is in high demand. Now I can shift my attention to UPS and their web based package tracking system.

Busy Weekend

·208 words·1 min
I’ve successfully given myself too much to do this weekend. I have to in no certain order: rotate my tires, change my oil, change the windshield wipers, go to Chestnut Hill to pick up some pants, and find a gym I like (as well as work out). That may not sound like much, but getting father to do anything car related quickly is like wishing for the ability to fly, so I know I’m going to have to surrender the better part of 4 or 5 hours to the tire rotation alone. Add in the other couple tasks and there goes a whole day.

Keeping the Faith

·255 words·2 mins
The Red Sox finally seem to be on the road to recovery following a rough transition back to its first string starters, many of whom were injured. While Ortiz and Manny struggled with the Oakland Athletics, the rest of the team seemed to find a groove. This includes defending batting champ, Bill Mueller (pronounced “Miller” which should be enough for any German to cringe). He knocked a ball out of the park early in the game to put the Red Sox ahead by 3. As any Sox fan knows though, that’s simply not enough.

Kerry, Edwards in '04?

·501 words·3 mins
I’ve been saying it for months now, ever since John Kerry pulled ahead of John Edwards, that if Kerry is serious about winning, he will pick Edwards as his running mate. It appears now that Kerry is serious. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a Democrat, nor am I a Kerry supporter. Quite the opposite actually. I’m going to support our current president, George W. Bush. Let me nip this in the bud now, I don’t feel the need to debate that, at least not for the purposes of this entry. So please keep all comments relevant to Kerry’s choice of running mate.

4th of July Fireworks

·704 words·4 mins
Last night I went into Boston to see the fireworks on the Charles River. I’d never gone before, so the best fireworks I’d seen up until that point were sparklers (and on the TV). Originally, I was thinking about going to see the Pops, sit in the esplanade, and watch the fireworks overhead. When I found out that I’d have to be there at 10 AM at the latest, I decided it wasn’t worth that much to me, at least for now.

My Kingdom for a Bluetooth Phone

·356 words·2 mins
I use Verizon as my wireless provider. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great. The service is consistent. My phone never cuts out on me (while half the people I know have such intermittent service that I end up calling their landline once they get home). It’s fairly cheap for me because I’m on a family plan (though that may change soon, but then I’ll have all those minutes to myself *muahahahahaha*).

Odd and Ends

·262 words·2 mins
I’m a little late with this entry because, well, it is the weekend. I have a couple things to talk about tonight though. First off, Friday I saw Spider-man 2. Overall, I enjoyed it. I have three problems with it. First, as Dana said to me, there was entirely too much story. Every other scene was the dopey Tobey Maguire crying about something. Honestly, the more of him covered up, the happier I am. He just isn’t Peter Parker. He’s a decent actor, but wrong for the role. This does relate to both movies, but there was far less of him I felt.

Pith Helmet 2.0 Beta

·275 words·2 mins
Due to using a Windows XP based computer at work, I have become very familiar with Firefox. By far, one of its vest features is an extension for it called “Ad Block.” This sweet little add-on lets you quickly and easily block ads or other content. It’s completely intuitive. Right click on something and it will give you an option to “Block Image” or “Block iFrame” dependent upon what the ad is contained within. It will then allow you to edit the URL to replace sections that are variable with an asterisk (*). Quick, easy, effective, and has a hugely significant effect upon load time.

A Trip to the Dentist (or, a Mouse of a Different Color)

·368 words·2 mins
Bluetooth is still considered a hot technology and was meant as a cure all for wireless peripherals (such as Palm Pilots, mice, keyboards). Once Bluetooth hit the streets, we were supposed to see all kinds of new products, virtually eliminating products based on other wireless standards. That didn’t quite happen. Apple released their Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, but again, the one button mouse hinders its utility for many users (including myself). Logitech released the MX900, Microsoft released a Bluetooth version of their venerable Intellimouse Explorer, and Belkin released one as well. However, Logitech’s lacks drivers for Mac OS X, making all but the main three buttons useless (at least until the next version of USB Overdrive is released, which promises Bluetooth support), the same goes for Microsoft’s (but add the fact it uses the old form factor without the tilt-wheel, it doesn’t compare with the RF version), and Belkin’s, well, it doesn’t need drivers, but it chews through batteries from what I’ve read in reviews.
