The blog editing software I’ve been using for a while now, MarsEdit, has finally gone 1.0. I consider it the second most essential software I use on my site (right after WordPress). It works with a variety of blogging packages, so if you use a Mac and blog, you need to check it out.
Congratulations Brent. I look forward to future development of this software.
It didn’t pay to roll out of bed early this morning to catch the news. Even with the Christmas (and other holidays) closing in quickly, we have to deal with the harsh reality that is, well, everything outside of the holiday advertising that we get inundated with every year.
Former Pantera Band Member Death # At a show in Columbus, Ohio last night, Damage Plan’s Dimebag Darrell, formerly of Pantera, was shot and killed. A deranged gumnan rushed the stage and accused Darrell of breaking up Pantera before pulling out a gun and killing four others before being shot and killed by a police officer.
Much like most of the WordPress community, I’ve been waiting with baited breath for the release of 1.3. I’d all but forgotten about it until I recently discovered Blogsome in an attempt to get Dana into a quality blogging package.
Blogsome is a little known free blogging site. And it’s run with WordPress 1.3 software. They even give you your own subdomain name in the format: yourname.blogsome.com. How sweet is that?
At any rate, seeing the new features in 1.3 resparked my interest. I know it’s only a matter of time before it’s released (and hopefully soon). As such, I’ve put up a testing installation. It’s going to be in a state of flux as far as format and looks go, but the content will be static as I simply copied the data from this 1.2.1 installation into a new database for testing.
I made a startling realization when I got my 12″ Powerbook. It’s a lot smaller than the classic Pismo that I’d been lugging around for 4 years. My L.L. Bean saddle bag’s laptop slot was actually too big for my shiny new Powerbook. The sides of the compartment are padded, so they naturally hold the shape. There’s so much room that the new ‘book flops around in it. It’s unsettling.
After a brief quest of asking for opinions on sleeves to insulate my Powerbook as well as some searching forums, a name that kept coming up was Waterfield. Much like Apple, the agreement was that the bags were pricey, but worth it. I liked the styling, so I bit the bullet and got one of their sleeves for my recent birthday.
I wasn’t let down.
Sometimes a little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing. It gives someone the ability to make a bogus assertion about something while sounding somewhat authoritative. Even worse, it makes laypeople think the entirely wrong thing about a subject that has lots of subtlety. The nightly news does this every night, breaking complex issues down into sound bites.
The technology news is no better, saying things that are outright wrong in order to break it down for their readership. An example of this was the reporting on the latest G5 model, a single 1.8 GHz tower. Macworld reported that this model has a 32-bit bus instead of 64-bit like its brethren.

Apple has released a security update for both Panther and Jaguar. You can get it at the download section of their site or by using Software Update. It weighed in at 12.7 MB coming in through mine.
As always, Maccentral has an excellent writeup.
It’s amazing what some people will do for their iCrack. Ever since Apple announced the availability of the iTunes Music Store (iTMS) in Canada, those crazy canucks have been going crazy waiting for it.
In fact, they’ve been protesting as Bush came to town. While the mainstream media has been widely reporting that this is due to policy concerning Iraq, this is entirely wrong. Such immature angst could not be explained by anything but concerns about the iTMS being available late. It even looked like it would be late, but everyone’s favorite computer company made sure that the delay was minimal, delivering on its promise last night, a mere day late.
Perhaps the greatest thing about first person shooters is that they inevitably have expansion packs which cost dramatically less than the game originally. You essentially get more of the game you liked originally.
Then sometimes, they don’t give you more of what you liked. They give you something loosely based upon something you liked. It’s sort of like the new Star Wars movies. Breakthrough features the same great gameplay, graphics, and weapons of the first two. It even seems to have better performance than Spearhead. However, it’s not quite as good.
