Firefox Inline-Block Frustration

·590 words·3 mins
I’m making Tag Central prettier. I can do all the colors and styling I want just fine. I think it’ll look super when it’s done (but then again, I’m not an artist and that will probably be painfully apparent). Anyway, I want the Flickr pictures to line the right side of the page. Then I want all the other sections to be contained within their own boxes, two per row.

Security Update 2005-003 Released

·923 words·5 mins
Apple has released yet another security update. Fire up Software Update. Here’s what’s updated, followed by my explanation: AFP Server Available for: Mac OS X v10.3.8, Mac OS X Server v10.3.8 CVE-ID: CAN-2005-0340 Impact: A specially crafted packet can cause a Denial of Service against the AFP Server. Description: A specially crafted packet will terminate the operation of the AFP Server due to an incorrect memory reference. Basically, if you use Apple File Sharing, someone can knock down the program serving the files. This is more of a pain in the ass than a security risk.

How does one know when to upgrade one’s computer? The answer is apparently very simple according to an upgrade forum post. 😉 if u up grade ur comp do it when ur redy. 😕 😕 😕 😕 😕 😕 😀 😀 😀 No, I didn’t add those smilies after the fact.

Tag Central

·178 words·1 min
I’ve started work on the Tag Central project I talked about previously. It currently uses the various RSS feeds that the suppported sites spit out. Unfortunately, this also means no Technorati tags. Unless I’m totally out of my mind, they don’t supply easily accessed RSS feeds. Right now, I’m not using a database, but instead just using the standard file based caching built into MagpieRSS which is processing all the feeds for me. Space may become an issue if this site becomes popular. I’d hate to not cache, but as I’m not getting paid for this yet, I can’t afford to use gigantic amounts of space.

Yahoo! Buys Flickr

·431 words·3 mins
I honestly had no idea that Yahoo! was interested in buying Flickr. I’m not entirely surprised though. It’s the business model that was born out of the Internet bubble of the 80’s. Almost. At any rate, the folks at Ludicorp announced that Yahoo! has bought them up. Yahoo actually does acquire Flickr Holy smokes, SOMEBODY out there is bad at keeping secrets!! Yes! We can finally confirm that Yahoo has made a definitive agreement to acquire Flickr and us, Ludicorp. Smack the tattlers and pop the champagne corks!

New Sections

·126 words·1 min
Listed under Pages and Site Sections are some new additions to the site. I’m giving you all the tools to stalk me online. You can see what I’m doing with 43 Things, the music, movies, and games I have in my library, if I’m sitting in front of computer with the webcam, the movies I’m getting from Netflix, an assortment of pictures at Flickr, and now the music I’m listening to at the music section.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

·40 words·1 min
I have to extend the obligatory St. Patrick’s Day greeting. So, Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I’d try a Guinness tonight, but considering my recent surgery, I may hold off until this weekend. At any rate, tip one back for me!

Goodbye Appendix, We Hardly Knew Ye

·916 words·5 mins
Well, it was confirmed. I had appendicitis and they removed my appendix. I’m appendix-less. Is that a turn-on or -off for women?

Ouch, My Appendix

·52 words·1 min
I might now be able to write for the next few days. After dinner last night, I started having some abdominal pains. It all shifted to my right side shortly before bed and it’s still there. I’m feeling pretty woozy right now, so I’m going to have to deal with it. Yikes.

New Beta Versiontracker

·165 words·1 min
As I am a .Mac member, I get a free Versiontracker membership. That was the main reason that I stuck with it over MacUpdate. Lately though, I’ve been getting fed up with the rendering bugs of the site. Those of you who also use the site might remember its earlier designs. Back when I first started visiting, it was extremely simple. It came up fast and there was no complicated code that screwed up. Over time, the site has slowly gotten more complicated and not for the better. Today I noticed that they have put up a new beta version of their site. It’s much improved. It loads faster, looks cleaner (though extremely similar to MacUpdate), and makes me feel better about visiting.
