Gmail Atom Feed

·102 words·1 min
Like RSS/Atom feeds? Have Gmail? Let’s combine the two! Fire up your RSS reader and plug this URL into it: https://gmail.google.com/gmail/feed/atom If your RSS reader is done right, it should probe you for a username and password. Plug [email protected] (the entire thing) into the username field and your password in the, no surprise, password field. Please note that any changes you make in your RSS reader will not be reflected in your Gmail inbox. This feed is simply a listing of the currently unread contents of your inbox.

I’ll admit it. I screwed up a bit with last week’s picks. 9-5 is not good. This makes me 20-8 overall. Hopefully this week is better. Votergasm

I had to link to Votergasm. How sad is it when you have to withhold sex in order to get someone to vote? And ladies, I will be voting on November 2nd….

Mac OS X Power Tools

·81 words·1 min
Thanks to my continued participation in Macworld’s Forums, I’ve gotten to know some of the Macworld writers. One of them is, of course, Dan Frakes. He’s done me the favor of sending me a copy of his latest book, Mac OS X Power Tools. It arrived in the mail to today. The sheer size of it surprised me, but I am no less determined to read it cover to cover. Once I do, you can look forward to a thorough review.

The wonderful people over at WordPress have updated the latest version to 1.2.1 to address some security concerns among other things. My upgrade seems to have been successful.

Give Me Wings

·72 words·1 min
As I have only been to U-Mass once this school year, I haven’t had a good chance to get all the fabulous local delicacies. Yesterday, Sheila, my coworker, had wings. That was enough to spark an intense craving for a big tray of honey barbeque wings from Wings in Amherst. I’m going out there Friday to get a huge tray of wings dripping in sauce that I can gorge myself on.

A Beginner's Introduction to Blogs

·221 words·2 mins
My obsession as of late has been RSS and blogging in general. To that end, I’ve been preaching about getting an RSS reader, etc. For most people, that’s a bit daunting. I think I may have found the solution. Check out Bloglines. There are other websites that give web access to RSS/Atom feeds, such as Blo.gs. Let’s face it though, Blo.gs’ interface Blo.ws. It’s ugly, slow, and hard to deal with. It also assumes, for the most part, that users are already familiar with RSS and how it works. It also relies on the authors of those feeds pinging those services (though Ping-o-Matic has made this easy for conscious bloggers).

Ballmer: “I don't know what I said exactly, but it was bad”

·114 words·1 min
Following a lambasting on the web normally reserved for politicians, Steve Ballmer has conveniently forgotten what he said. Nevermind the fact that his comments are recorded in nearly every iPod, Mac, and computer based new source, or the fact that they are also in perhaps hundreds of blogs, he just can’t remember what exactly was said. This says two things: He knows he was wrong. He doesn’t have the balls to stand up and admit that he said it. “I don’t recall” doesn’t hold up in court and it certainly doesn’t hold up in the media. Microsoft’s public relations people should tackle and wrestle him to the ground before he makes another colossal blunder.

Which Blogging Tool Are You?

·68 words·1 min
This is admittedly geeky and probably only 1 out of 10,000 people will get any real enjoyment out of it, but I bet almost everyone will take this quiz anyway. Just because. Thus, I pose the question, which blogging tool are you? You are a very conservative and introverted person. You live in your own world and you're not very easy to approach.
