I know it’s late notice, but I just got turned on to Yahoo’s Football Pick’em page (like what I did last year, but automated, so scrap that idea).

Anyway, I expect all of you to join and participate especially Henry (that’s two mentions), Dana, and Katie. The group has 50 slots, so if it comes to that, it’ll be first come, first serve.

You need a Yahoo! id and enough time to pick teams to win (no spread) and assign confidence (1 – 16). Each week’s picks have to be in 5 minutes prior to the first game of the week. The Patriots are playing tonight, so you’ll need to enter your choices before then.

Red Sox Game Three

I’m sure this will piss off a few people (and already has some others), but I saw my third Red Sox game of the season this past Tuesday night. And this is after the World Series I said that it would be impossible for me to see even a single game. But I digress.

Anyway, Allison invited me to go with her as part of a package deal that her mother had access to. The package was a bus ride into Boston, as much beer as you could drink, a sandwich, and a ticket to the game. Not that bad.

Time for me to brag a little. During my softball game on Tuesday night, I got on base every time I came to bat. I’m not talking about just one or two at-bats. I was up four times. One was a triple with two or three RBIs.

Of course, my fielding is still weak-ass, but I’ll sweep that under the rug.

My Second Red Sox Game

I wasn’t expecting to go to even a single game this year and now I’ve gone to two. I saw the first game of the double header against the Seattle Mariners today with my father.

I know it was Mother’s Day. Hush. The game was supposed to be last night but it got rained out. Also, dad was the one that got the tickets, so taking them a second time to see a game with someone else didn’t seem appropriate.

I got a chance to go to a Red Sox game last night with my Sox buddy, Dana. We even spanked the Devilrays 10-0.

I wasn’t expecting to get to go this year, so it was great to go so early in the season. If Raytheon has another group Red Sox trip like they did last year, I may go again.

At any rate, it was a great time and a pretty good game (from what I can remember). Now where’s Freddie Mitchell’s big mouth?

Atlanta looked really strong and I think their run game may destroy the Eagles. Pittsburgh simply didn’t look that good against the Jets (who would have won save for two missed kicks).

If you’ll notice, I actually picked the two undefeated teams to win again this week. The odds are against them, but the Eagles and Patriots are my two favorites for the Superbowl at this point. However, if another NFC team starts to pick up the slack, I will pick them over the Eagles simply because the Eagles always suck in the post season.

Riots ‘R Us

I wrote an entry about how our society and, I’m ashamed to say, my generation treats the current state of privilege. In particular, I remarked upon how privileges are now being confused with rights. This, I can safely say, is the cause for the recent riots at U-Mass and in Boston. The vast majority of rioters were either college students or of that age. In other words, they are part of my generation.

In response to the Red Sox victory in game six, thousands of University of Massachusetts gathered in Southwest, only to have 35 arrested.

Who says we don’t still got it? Tonight will be incredible. I’d expect thousands more to gather at the conclusion of the game. I hope my brother and the rest of the U-Mass police are ready.

I had the horrible misfortune of have a 6-8 record during week five. Sad. Week six thus far has been much better. So far, it’s 11-2. Houston always surprises me and I’m glad to see Green Bay on the road to recovery.

I now have a 37-18 record for the season.

Well, it happened, as predicted for months. Whom the blame should be placed upon is not clear. What is clear that both the owners and players have their own respective share of the blame at this point.

I was really looking to forward to hockey this year as I didn’t have time to follow last year with all my senior year responsibilities. Now I’ll be reduced to following the U-Mass Hockey Team with almost stalker level obsession. That’s not what anyone wants.

Partriots Win Season Opener

After a nail-biting three hours, the Patriots pulled out a win against the Indianapolis Colts.

It was nail-biting, of course, only because of some sloppy play near the end by both teams. A couple fumbles and a botched punt return put Indianopolis in good position to score with a first down. After a couple weak downs, Indianapolis tried once more on their third down to jockey for better position. To Manning’s chagrin, McGinest sacked him for a huge loss.

Following a Paul Hamm’s dramatic recovery from a mistake during the overall gymnastics competition at the Olympics, we all learned of a scoring error that would have meant only second place for him, giving the bronze medalist the gold.

Naturally, it’s a sad turn of events for the South Korean, but the Federation of International Gymnasts (FIG) has refused to step up to the plate to rectify their mistake. Instead of giving Yang Tae-young another gold or telling the world that they made a mistake and that it is final, they are calling upon Paul Hamm to turn his medal in and “do the right thing.” Suddenly, the competitor who has no hand in the scoring, is being asked to rectify the situation? He is being called upon to fix things. It’s absurd!

Who Needs Nomar? Not Me

While apparently scores of children are crying about his departure, I’m glad Nomar is gone. Not only did he have a bad attitude (as teammates revealed), but he was frequently hurt and really didn’t want to be here (as is evidenced by his refusal of a $60 million 3 year deal while hurt).

His bat may have finally started to return just before his trade, but I don’t care. His errors hurt the Red Sox efforts more than his batting helped. Cabrera may not be the best hitter (currently floating just above a .200 batting average) but his fielding skills are excellent and is the key difference between the Red Sox winning and losing.

Keeping the Faith

The Red Sox finally seem to be on the road to recovery following a rough transition back to its first string starters, many of whom were injured. While Ortiz and Manny struggled with the Oakland Athletics, the rest of the team seemed to find a groove.

This includes defending batting champ, Bill Mueller (pronounced “Miller” which should be enough for any German to cringe). He knocked a ball out of the park early in the game to put the Red Sox ahead by 3. As any Sox fan knows though, that’s simply not enough.

Red Sox Fever!

Tonight, the Red Sox are playing the L.A. Dodgers at Fenway (the first time the Dodgers have ever been there; thank inter-league play) and I’m going to be there for it. This will be only the second time in my life going to Fenway and that’s saying a lot considering I’ve lived in Massachusetts my entire life. My first game was only a couple weeks ago too (a game against the Mariners).
